A fresh addition to the Anjunadeep stable, the highly regarded Belgian pairing of Jean Vanesse and Thomas Sohet, aka Spirit Catcher, make a bold entrance with the brilliant “Black Pitch EP”. Having graced seminal labels 2020Vision, Moodmusic and Freerange over their 10 year career, Spirit Catcher have continued to push a deep, funk-informed groove. Incorporating melodic 80s vibes and modern electronic influences, the “Black Pitch EP” showcases their dynamic sound at its finest. Setting the tone perfectly, title track “Black Pitch” comes straight out of the blocks with a dark, immersive baseline, before delicate melodies and rising pads combine for a swirling crescendo – tied together with an infectious vocal hook. With hallmarks of a classic house track, “Vintage Point” teases a rising techno-influenced groove and builds to a discordant climax. Taking things deeper still, “Miss U Right Now” rounds off the EP. Crisp percussion and a rolling groove lay the foundation for a slow burning jam, complete with hypnotic bass stabs and another spoken word refrain.
