Funky Fraiche Friday [05/17/13]

AYNE-Funky-Fraiche-Fridays1Well we missed this last week, so there goes the streak again. Not surprised. I had finals and have been carrying the weight *cough*. Hopefully this week will be a group effort. Everyone’s got a little funk in them, and Friday just always feels like the right time to shake what my momma gave me. I’ve attached a few of my favorites over the last few weeks as well as one or two new ditties. If you think you would be a asset the AYNE team as far as keeping our shit together, writing reviews to shows or improving our site in some cool way we don’t know about send us an email we are always open to suggestions. Now, let’s donse.

We’ve been loving these Spirit Soul Mixes, the latest from Moonwalk is sensational. Wilki is probably “swamped” at “work” right now, but nod to him for making me listen to this one. I woulda got to it eventually, but it’s really making me enjoy this Friday afternoon pre ABGT, of course.

Bixel Boys gettin’ all freakynaughty with the baseline. Robin Thicke keepin’ it so soulful and sexy. Basically this shit just…gets…offffff. Don’t care who you are, cause everyone is on the dancefloor gettin’ down. Deep down. You won’t regret it. Being bad feels good.

enhanced-buzz-22005-1366987018-50The young frenchman, who goes by the name Matt Fax (among others), has put together a pretty spectacular mix for Silk Music‘s Arrival Showcase with British duo The Blizzard on guest mix duties. I listened to this after work yesterday and was fully lost in the music the entire time. Like I said, watch out for this young man this summer. Big things are coming. He even announced the start of an album which is to showcase all angles of his musical self, tweeting that he has been taking risks and trying out new styles. Tommy likey.

rain rain go away

tumblr_mmfnyqAtnW1qj8maho1_500Since it is raining in Boston today, I have compiled a handful of songs that are making me feel like I’m on some tropical island far away that I don’t even know about. That Chookie video brought me there and I just didn’t want to leave. If you’re in exam mode, well, that sucks. Hope these help.

RELEASE: Justin Oh – The Time Traveller [Arrival]

922932_499381313449860_17554909_nOne of South Korea’s finest exports is Justin Oh, who, on numerous occasions in recent years, has proven that he’s a formidable name in the modern progressive and trance scene. Since his debut in 2011, his music has been supported by Top 100 DJs including Matt Darey, Marcus Schossow, and the legendary Paul Oakenfold. On Arrival we’re extremely proud to present his full-length artist album “The Time Traveller”, including appearances by three tremendously talented vocalists. “The Beginning Is The End” is a lush introduction to the album, featuring hypnotic synth layers and intricate sound effects. Remus‘s mesmerizing vocals are featured on “Where The Lights Fall”; the track includes a memorable riff lead, and an outstanding groove and bassline structure. “Among The Stars” quickly establishes a firm rhythm with a unique, refreshing theme lead. Numerous background effects spice up the soundscape, and new melodies are added as the track progresses. “All I Say” was originally released on Silk Digital in September 2012; it features Justin’s own vocals, and a wealth of beautifully crafted melodies, accompanied by an ingenious percussion line. Singer Abby Rae is presented on “We Own The Night”, which quickly establishes a beautiful atmosphere with Justin’s usual great synth lines and beat elements. The break sees Abby’s tremendous, layered vocals, which is followed up by a gorgeous main lead. The break in “A Different Place Part 2″ features lucrative, tiny melodies, as well as Justin’s mesmerizing, delayed vocals. Inspiring new synths emerge later, which join the other elements beautifully. “Good Morning”, the B-side of the aforementioned “All I Say” single on Silk Digital, is featured here in an extended mix. The main melodies create a stunning atmosphere, and Justin’s vocals spice it up even more. The unique bassline establishes an unmistakably firm rhythm, and the various new melodies continue to impress the listener. A softer groove is introduced in “Stay With Me”, and the vocals by Jennifer Yun soon emerge. The main arpeggio lead gently leads the vocals up to a new, impressive melody, that, while not prominent, truly spices the soundscape up greatly. “The Time Traveller’s Theme” features beautiful melodies, a refreshing breakbeat, and unique sound effects. Blissful vocals are added later, and synthesized string lines combine beautifully with the breakbeat and multiple other elements. The outro song, “The End Is The Beginning” includes calm pad layers and intriguing percussion effects.

So much win in this artist album from Justin Oh. Feel good vibes from start to finish. Respect to the young Korean for putting together an entire album. Not an easy task to say the least. Any summertime sadness is sure to be swept away with a listen.
