Although Silk Music has featured numerous trance, breakbeat, chillout, and deep house tracks over the past five years, we have released more tracks in the progressive house niche than any other sub-genre of electronic music. Thus, with great enthusiasm, we present Progressive House Essentials 01, the first installment of a brand new compilation series. The fifteen tracks presented here, featuring some of the leading international talents in this genre, have been supported on radio by Gareth Emery, Solarstone, James Grant, Matt Darey and more.
Key word with this compilation: essential. Silk knows what’s really good. Now you do too.
Silk Textures welcomes Slovak phenom Peter Illias, a longstanding contributor to label affiliates Silk Royal and Arrival. Peter has come into his own this past year, with radio support by Above & Beyond, Gareth Emery, and various other leading progressive and trance artists. He now showcases his “deeper” side with “Summer Vibes,” which also includes standout remixes by genre veterans Da Funk and Forteba. The Original Mix is a gorgeous slice of atmospheric and sexy late-night house music. There are various vocal effects and crystalline melodies, which paint an elaborate soundscape. The steady rhythm and fluttering synths truly transport the listener to the heights of a summer holiday. On remix detail, we are proud to welcome Swiss legend Da Funk, who not only has worked as a celebrated producer-DJ for nearly two decades, but who also is the founder of the acclaimed Acryl Music imprint. His “Sommernachtstraum Rework” is a vintage deep cut, which highlights the provocative female vocal elements and radiant synths of the original. Finally, Hungarian talent Forteba, who is also known as 1/2 of the accomplished progressive house duo Colourblock (with Lank), offers a groovy and jazz-influenced rendering. One of the most striking elements is the resonant and funky bass, which gives this interpretation a bit more dancefloor appeal, especially when combined with the snappy percussion.
Misha Kitone is a rising star. After winning the remix contest for Afrojack & Quintino’s “Selecta” he has gone on to release two HUGE hits, “Beyond The Rave” and this track “Come Together,” which might be the biggest piano-driven progressive instrumental anthem since the likes of Avicii’s “Bromance.” Out on Oxygen records, this track will make the beatport top 20 easily.
Out this week is a remix package of the new single from pop star Labrinth entitled “Last Time.” In the package we find two unique remixes. Gareth Emery’s is definitely a more crowd-friendly anthem with beautiful piano and synth melodies that build very nicely. Knife Party, if you couldn’t guess, went a different route entirely…you’ll know what I mean a second.
Gareth Emery is a very talented producer. This song is a prime example. As the song builds from the intro, it drops crisply into beautiful lyrics from Christian Novelli. After subtly droppin out around the 2:45 mark, the vocals burst back into the spotlight as the track builds into a simply EPIC drop. This is the new sound of trance. Combining progressive elements with the sounds and feeling of a trance track. Daddy likes.
